Week 15: Creature Locomotion (polish) and Advanced Animation Shot (Idea)

Creature Locomotion (polish)

side view
front view

Feedback from Ting:

  • front right foot: the spacing is crazy extreme, can we clean that up
  • rear right feet: look at the ref, it takes one frame to contact (x23 to x24) whereas your foot takes x22-x29 to take the step
  • rear left foot same problem – the spacing is too extreme and taking too long to take that step
  • I like the scapula you did, we can add more to the spine shape. I know in reference it doesnt have obvious change but if you look at how the spine sort of changes from tilted to back to tilt to front, we can add that in
  • lastly can we tone down the movements of the head? it looks a bit like he’s listening to music and moving his head XD
correct spacing
add spine shape

Advanced Animation Shot (Idea)

This week we had an assignment to plan ana advanced shot.

https://syncsketch.com/sketch/7rm7UZ3MIXDf/?offlineMode=1#/44062292/45939937/a_121134741

Here is feedback from Ting:

  • Looks good. Make sure it is only ONE character. Don’t make two characters fight with each other, the workload is no realistic.
  • and make sure your camera is more or less the same with reference!
  • for the rig, left one is more cartoony and right one is more gaming. Left one might be cleaner and easier to animate, right one has a lot of followthrough and small parts to animate.

Creature Locomotion

Ting gave me feedback:

  • COG moves up with whole body
  • limited controllers for paws
  • chest increases ups and downs
  • correct scapula
find key poses
spine shape should change

Dialogue Shot

Ting gave me feedback:

  • fast body movement
  • 58F – spacing for brows
  • eye dart should be faster
  • clear poses for facial
  • stick expression on the face longer (add small movements)
  • 110F keep till 125F (slow in + spacing)

Lipsync:

  • U seem – missing
  • 3 frames change
  • off your face (less jaw)
  • diserve (corners of mouth)
clear the spacing

Week 11: Lip Sync and Overlap Workshop

Lip Sync

This week we studied how to do lipsync shots. Our next assignment would be diaologue shot which would be focused on facial expression and lipsync.

Overlap Workshop

This week we also focused on the cycled and overlapped motions. Our assignment in class was to animate the sea monster swimming with good follow through and overlap on its body and fins.
